I often wonder is SEGA really understands the power their little workhorse of a system has? I have never seen a system, so old and out of date graphically, have so much staying power in regard to releases of new games, new hardware, home-brew compilations or the ability to generate so much fair rememberance and love. It’s like the girl next door but with a power switch and a GD-ROM drive.
I love this system. I make odes to it, write poetry for it, draw pictures, lust in the wee hours for my noisy grey box. It AM THE BEST! If it was a cuss-word, it’d be FUCK, the best of the cuss-words, with power made of fond memories.
And, like the girl who lives next door to me, it keeps putting out. Games that is. Karous in particular.
A SHMUP in the vein of Radiligy but with less rave coloring and more mopery, is on it’s way to gamers worldwide. Solid proof that if your system is beloved enough, it too can out last old competitors and become a favorite of all.
As dcemu puts it:
Karou comes from the young Japanese developer MileStone. Milestone has been responsible for two other recently released Dreamcastâ„¢ shooters — Chaos Field and Radilgy. Both titles were also ported to Gamecubeâ„¢ and PlayStation2â„¢ later on.
Karous – which translates to ‘Crow’ in English – looks similar to Chaos Field and especially Radilgy, using many of the same gameplay mechanics of both games and featuring some of the cell-shading style used in Radilgy. The game is about a girl born of a union between an angel and a human. She gets firepower by gaining equipments like a sword, shield and guns. The graphics stick to the basics black and white palette of colours to give the game a gothic feel.
An initial shipment of Milestone’s Karous / Crow for Dreamcastâ„¢ has arrived today, covering approx. 40% of all preorders. We are expecting a lot more supply by tomorrow, shipping at US$ 59.90 only. The Segadirect Edition release will be in stock on Friday.
With Sega shutting down the GD-ROM production, Karous is expected to be the last commercial Dreamcastâ„¢ game.
HOT DAMN. Order it here, or go to the official site here if you can read moon-speak.

Well, I’m a little worried ’cause I really don’t like Chaos Field so I guess I’m going to have to try out Radiilgy first before I pick this game up. I still want Under Defeat!
