3 out of 4 Autobots don’t suck

And even the fourth looks decent until the bottom half loads. Sadly, the same ratio does not hold true for Decepticons.

So Michael Bay blogs and over at his joint there’s some nice Hi-res images of Robots out of Disguise. Give them a gander.

I really dig the Jazz design, and I like that the autobots in general have features that mirror their time among humans (hands, knees, feet with at least a heel/toe influence.) On the other hand, most of the Decepticons look decidedly alien. Starscream has the chickenwalker legs that I’ve loved since MechCommander, and most have the 5digit/no thumb hands showing that what ever they’re modeled after evolved along a vastly different path than humans. But I’d feel pretty safe betting that Blackout has been on Earth among humans for a while as he also has more humanoid features.

I have no excuse for Frenzy though, that fucker just looks bad.

Bumblebee: head is horrible, but the rest of him looks amazing

Optimus Prime: looks sad. I don’t like his new look. It’s not bad, it’s too different for me to accept

Ironhide: meh nothing special

Jazz: Looks fucking sweet, but what’s with the lips?

Megatron: WTF?

Starscream: why does he look like leftovers from a Thanksgiving dinner? At least he has hands now.

Blackout: Hard core bad ass. This is what all the Transformers in this movie should have looked like. Classic body type, classic-esque head (they could have done with out the fucking Gundam crown) and I love the robot hands.

Frenzy: What a joke, what in the hell is he suppoe to transform into? If I can’t guess their Transformation, they they are bad Transformers. Yes, Russ, I know it’s a child logic but fuck it. That’s what I want.

On that point I totally agree with ya man.

You can tell that the autobots are all cars thanks to the wheels and headlights (and bumblebees license plate codpiece) being pretty obvious on them all. And after you know what they transform from there are some tells like Jazz’s fucking awesome looking forearms with the stylized porche headlights and Bumblebee, Prime and Ironside all have their front ends for chests.

But only Blackout is worth a shit of the Decepticon foursome… course he looks like he could own all the autobots so that should count for something. I know there’s logic for megatron and starscream looking as they do, but it’s still a damned shame. And I’ve read some stuff about the high concept aspect about Frenzy that might make him an interesting character, but there’s is absolutely no way to spin how atrocious his robot mode is.

On the brighter side, there’s a 75% chance Ill be in town for the week of the 4th so I’ll be there to immediately discuss the merits of this biotch. Sadly, the other 25% will have me in China >:(
