Who watches the Watchmen?
I do!
Some may want to wait until they see Batman for this piece of celluloid gold on the big screen. I lacked the willpower and wanted some screen caps. Here’s a list of what I saved them as; if you’re so inclined, watch the trailer and guess where I hit the print screen button (fun for all!)
Twin Towers
Ha Ha
Legs
Neutered
Lightning
Mars
Also, despite the bastards taking a lot of the same screen caps as I did, Rope of Silicon was much more on the ball with theirs and added a Panel v. Frame comparison, so click here for that and marvel that Watchmen is being made by someone who might actually have read the comic a time or twenty. And sadly rumors of an holiday release were just that, Watchmen comes out in March like it was always scheduled to. Damn them untrustworthy rumors.

I knew that it wasnt coming this holiday, but I swore it was in line for a Jan-early Feb release.
oh well…March is “ok”
I’ll wait to see Batman to see the trailer.
And then I’ll come back to view all of the screen caps.

I was geeking out like a motherfucker when I saw the trailer last night. This is definitely going to be good.

So…just got back from Batman (amazing by the way, much more than a “comicbook movie”) and I must say the Watchmen trailer looked awesome as expected.
Dr. Manhattan and the Mars scene looked beautiful, Rorschach looked authentic, Nite Owl, Owl Mobile and everything…just cool
It really looked panel for panel for the most part. The Comedian getting beat up, thrown out of the window…complete with noobs behind me “That looks like Robert Downey Jr, I thought he was Ironman”
But good God, Batman…I will spare the ‘cone of me putting a write up on here as it would be me just kissing Aaron Eckhart and Heath Ledgers asses. Phenomenal stuff indeed…what do you think Baldy? I know you are fighting the status quo and all, but come on…you gotta give the Dark Knight it’s props.

Hyperbole aside (and you can barely avoid it out here on the interweb,) Batman was a great movie. It ranks right up there with Spiderman 2 and Superman as the best of the superhero genre. My only legitimate complaint is that my ass was numb after sitting in place for 3 hours, but knowing it was long going in, I at least had the prescience to empty the bladder beforehand. Though there was one element that took me out of the movie: the fucking dogs. Joker’s hyenas are a cool conceit for TAS, but c’mon. Seriously, dogs?
As for Joker, Mark Hamill is still my favorite take on the character, but Ledger’s portrayal is bound to impact the way the he’s written in the same way that Richard Harris’ portayal of Dumberdore in the first 2 Potter movies affected the way Rowlings wrote him from the fourth book on. Ledger absolutely nailed the conceit of a mostly rational thinker with insanity dancing just around the bend, motivating it all. And the tongue thing slayed me.
Eckhardt was great as Dent, but I believe that the script let him down with the Two-face turn. Maybe I misheard the line, but I could have sworn that Batman said he was going after Rachel and kept expecting a line saying that the Joker tricked them. That would have completely altered the impetus driving Two-face and with it niggling about in my head I seriously had trouble with his entire arc from there on. The make-up/CG looked good though and Maroni scene was quite fun.
Also, loved the tons of recognizable genre character actors sprinkled throughout. I always get a kick out of seeing ‘oh that guy’s in movies.

I actually thought that the arc for Dent was awesome. Alot of the audience didnt know that Harvey Dent was going to turn, and they really held it off for a long time. But when he did, some of the audience…especially the noobs next to me all put 2 and 2 together and burst out in satisfaction that there was more to the movie than Joker.
My favorite quote from the noobs: “OOOOOOOOHH…thats that guy with the coin, I get it now! Two-Time or something!”
I’m glad they didn’t kill off Two Face completely, but unfortunately we wont see another Joker on film like that for quite some time. I heard Phillip Seymour Hoffman is going to be Penguin in the next movie AWESOME
As far as how Joker is being written, I dont believe it will change much…as Ledger’s Joker was basically an amalgamation of the “Arkham Asylum” (Grant Morrison), “The Killing Joke” & “The Man Who Laughs” versions of him…at least, thats what I noticed.
I don’t know, I really enjoyed it…I think it went beyond just a “comic book” movie and ventured into thriller and even crime drama, as there was almost no comic relief and to be honest, I don’t think I’d take any kids to see this movie.

For Dent it was, but after the accident it seems that a simple convo with Gordon saying Batman went to Rachel’s location, but the Joker lied and you were there instead would have negated all of the Two-Face storyline. That it hinged on so simple a thread, yet never acknowledged it really irked me. We’ve spent so much time coming to like Harvey, that there’s a hope that someone would finally fucking tell him and he’d come to his senses. And if the intent is indeed to transform him to a villain and sink in that he’s lost his judgement, he flips the coin on whether to believe it or not and loses, fully becoming Two-Face in the loss.
Instead, they leave the thread dangling and Two-face just goes around and kills everyone that crossed him using the coin as a gimmick. Case in point, even when the coin comes out in Maroni’s favor, he flips again to kill the driver and indirectly kill Maroni where the proper response would have been him accepting to coin’s decision and granting Maroni his life. This wouldn’t be very rewarding to the audience, but would hammer in Two-Face’s Modus Operandi.
And Harvey Dent is dead. Eckhardt will be fully available to turn down Captain America.

Eckhardt as Steve Rodgers = GOLD
