Pier Solar coming to a Sega Genesis/CD near you!

Dust off your Sega Genesis and Sega CD; I discovered some amazing news for you.

It looks like a small but dedicated group of homebrew programmers will be releasing a new RPG called Pier Solar for not only just a Genesis game but also combining with the power of the Sega CD. This will be the first 100% original game to be released in this decade/millennium. You see the last big game to have been released on the Genesis was Beggar Prince, but that was a translation of an old Chinese RPG repackaged and shipped to the English speaking market. So I’m really excited to support this project and to see how this game will look on my setup at home. To make this game even more interesting, you can play the cart and stream the music directly off the Sega CD. How awesome is it to get a 100% original 16 bit game with CD quality sound? Well, if this was 1994, I would have been floored but then again if you told me there would still be people making Sega Genesis games in 2008/2009, I would probably laugh in your face.

Here’s the most recent update from TulioAdriano:

- Pier Solar will not come in MD and MCD (separate) versions anymore. Thanks to Fonzie’s blasting technology, we’ll be offering the MD version capable of playing the songs from the MCD if available. That will guarantee that all players have the same graphic experience, and the players with MCD can experience a Stereo near cd-quality sound.

- Pier Solar will be multi-language. Based on our message board polls we’ll be offering 3 language packs: US Pack (EN, ES, PT); EU Pack (EN, FR, DE) and JP Pack (EN, JP). Note that the languages may vary depending on the availability of translators.

- We’re selling Pier Solar on 2 editions: Pier Solar Classic and Pier Solar Posterity. Both editions will include: 64 Mega Cartridge, Mega/Sega CD disc for enhanced HiFi soundtrack, goodies, color booklet, a finely crafted clamshell box and a Pier Solar poster. The posterity pack is a way for people to donate to the project and help us to prepare the games for the posterity. Those who purchase the posterity pack will have their names displayed on the game credits and on the manual credits. We also might draw some names to take part into the story as a NPC.

Creators are allowing you to download the demo and try out the game before placing your preorder and for only $35; you will be getting the complete Genesis cart and the complete Sega CD disc. I’m skipping the demo and guaranteeing my copy since the game’s production run will only be 500 units and I’m not going to miss this opportunity. Here’s hoping this game will be compatible to my JVC X’Eye because I don’t feel like hooking up my Model 1 Sega CD setup just to play one game.
