Okay, what a pain in the ass. I was almost finished completely editing the show but my stupid ass forgot to save so I had to start over at about the 70% point, when my laptop decided to choke. Ugh. Sometimes I really hate editing…
So this week’s show is all about the one SNK series I think the majority of gamers from around the world have at least played one of the run ‘n gun shooter from the series. I think Ancient Flounder, Decepticreep, Jedah Doma and myself did a decent job riffing about a series that is near and dear to us. Sadly, Tenno was AWOL and the usual psycho banter was missed by us all.

I’ve done my best to ignore the silly interweb, inter-cultural flame war about the Retrogamer’s Metal Slug article but I can’t say the same for the rest of the Pinekast crew. (Sigh) I don’t understand this silly flame war but I do understand hilarity and there’s plenty of hilarity to go around this week.
The most important thing to know about this week’s show is that we love Metal Slug and you should give one of them a try.
Things you might want to pay attention for is that we are actually holding a contest, a give away of sorts to reward you the listener with something free. It may not be the best prize in the world but hey it’s free a Xbox 360 game and since the site is so small, your chances of winning is definitely in your favor. So listen through the whole show for details. Please summit all entries by 12pm (PST) on May 9th 2009.

THE INTERNET, MOTHERFUCKER! SERIOUS BUSINESS!
To be fair, there was more shit-slinging from the Stu Crew as far as nationality was concerned. The Queen’s English is better, yo! But, the last 10 pages is N-G.com patting themselves on the back, basically. Kinda fail, except for the IP fiasco. That was pure gold.
Stu’s Crew (fun to say!) is still claiming it’s ‘shopped which if it was would be real egg on NG’s face, but whatever, lol.
Who cares.
Me. Ancient. Nobody.
Show sounded good, though for some reason I was extra bassy. I think I had my levels extra low on my side. Second, I think I kept calling Ancient Flounder Tenno. Sorry bout that.
And I mention BrezzaSoft; kinda biffed there since I believe they only worked on the home ports to PS2 and Xbox. So, slightly off. But, at least I can admit I was wrong.
As for the mentioning of the hardware Gunforce 2 ran on was the Irem M92 hardware, which just so happened to also run In The Hunt.
Interesting side note: Irem also made a golf series called Major Title. We saw the second title here as The Irem Skins Game. Looks similar to this, yeah? Lots of good times and swearing with Neo Turf Masters. Not Metal Slug-related, but still an interesting tid-bit.
I haven’t played In The Hunt since the big box PS1 days and I never realized that Ninja Baseball Bat Man ran on the same hardware. Isn’t there also a decent Metal Slug clone that runs on the PGM arcade system? Never played it, but I think it was called Demon Front or something like that. Just for confirmation, Neo Turn Masters is the shit. “OHHHH NO!”
“I did it!”
Been wanting to try out Demon Front, but PGM stuff is non-existant around here and emulation of it is spotty at best.
Yeah I was about to buy a PGM board with that game a while back on eBay, but got out bid at the last second. The Knights of Valor games on the system are suppose to be good as well.
Dolphin Blue is also one I’d like to give a shot, though it looks generic. I believe it was worked on by some former Metal Slug team members, too.
I’ve always wanted a PGM but the prices always seemed a little too high for a wanna-be MVS.
PGM isn’t really worth it, since there are only a few games that are worth getting and they are all pretty expensive. You do have an Atomiswave, though, so finding Dolphin Blue is a possibility. Not sure how much it goes for.
Well occasionally you can find a PGM board for a decent price. The one I was bidding on on ebay with the Demon Front cartridge was around 80 bucks. Not bad, but some of the games like Donpachi are absurbly priced if you find one.
It seems no one is interested in a free game.
Either no one like free stuff or we have the laziest listeners in the world. It kind of makes me want to think twice about doing contests.
Give it to Macc =)
Well either way here are some show suggestions: point/click/text adventure games, good vs bad license games, or the arcade beat um up. I was thinking about the license idea the other day and Capcom’s great track record with the Disney license back in the NES/SNES days. And yes I am too lazy to remeber to send an email once I get to my home PC.
