Damn, EVO 09 is less than a month away!
Holy crap, it’s almost here! EVO ‘09 is less than a month away and it has caught me off guard. I’m trying to convince myself that it’s going to be worth it to drag out another arcade cab for this year’s gaming event. I’m looking forward to attend but I’m not going to sign up for any tournaments. I have too much attachment to my hard earned funds to just throw it away. I know my odds and my gut is telling me to stay away because I know I’m going to get fleeced.
So this year’s lineup looks fantastic. It’s so nice to see so many new games. Of every game added to this year’s tournament, I’m most excited to see that Tatsunoko vs. Capcom has been added to the list. Super Street Fighter HD Remix obviously replaced Super SF II and everyone knew Street Fighter IV was going there. Head over to EVO’s official site for the tournament details.
What I’m more concern is that Pineconeattack and the rest of the Las Vegas gamers will due our town justice by making sure we provide some of the best gaming entertainment for the BYOC (bring your own console.) The big question will be, “What arcade boards should we bring?”

I’d be willing to participate in a Street Fighter Alpha 2 tournament. But I guess it would have to be 1999.
Sadly, I may have to bow out this year. Unless I can get away with no registration, but I doubt it.
@ Insouciant: What?
@ Domino Chan: That’s what BYOC is for!!!
I got an extra 30″ TV I can bring with my PS2 and some other games like alpha, CVS2, KOFXI. I will also be bringing my SNES with a copy of Tournament Fighters for some MMs. I will have to see if I can help my friend replace the bad power supply in his supergun by then as well. However my bigger concern is that our Vegas players do just as good if not better at Evo as they did at Devastation this past weekend.
@ Jango: If you need help with that cab let me know. Doesn’t look like I will be moving before Evo so the chance of me getting my cab there is pretty slim. As for arcade boards I can bring a few with me. My MVS board is busted, but I got a bunch of carts I can bring (Rage of the Dragons, MotW, 98, etc). Also not sure if you got a ST board, but apparently they are going to be running a vanilla ST side tourney on arcade so I know that any extra cabs with the game would help them out (especially considering that this one should be getting more players than the official HDR tourney from what I hear). If I can fix the copy of Time Killers I just got I will bring that as well.
@ Domino-chan: yeah just show up and play at the BYOC. Thats what numerous people did last year when they saw the SF4 cabs there.
I have a stock Super Street Fighter II Turbo CPS2 board, SFIII: Third Strike and KOFXI carts/boards. We are covered for that. Speaking with some of the local guys, they are wanting more outlandish odd ball fighters. So I’m curious how this is going to end up.
I’m still for the weird/rare MVS fighters. I’m hoping one of the guys will bring his Tech Romancer board. So far we will have Three real cabs and probably the two headless/super gun cabs.
I’m wondering if I should bring my ST-V board and throw up some Radiant Silvergun to break up the fighting games…
Figured I’d cover the major titles first. If we can get my friends Namco Exceleena up by then he should be able to bring that down to Evo as well. Matrimelee, Rival Schools/Project Justice, Cyberbots, Jojos, Waku Waku 7, Gem Fighter, KI, VF Kids, Rumble Fish, and Darkstalkers are good with me for the weird ones if you got um.
A game to break out of the fighting game mold ain’t a bad idea either. A competative puzzle game (magical drop, tetris, puzzle fighter) or something that you can do score attacks on would work well.
Believe me, I really do want to go. Still, money and time are a big issue. EVO is the weekend before Comic Con, and I’d want at least two days to hang out and play games. But my vacation is already in place and it would be a pain to switch.
I’ll be there, since two of the days fall on my normal days off.
