Pineconeattack, or PCA is a semi-collaborative effort of sheer idiocy, perpetrated on teh interbutts for our own sick amusement, with articles about gaming, pop culture/fad and anything we find funny.
Seriously, escape while you can.

I tend to notice a lot of unusual things when I’m bouncing around the ole Interbutts: stuff like mismanaged online campaigns, interesting porno, gossipy nonsense; you know, good wholesome family fun. But seeing an ad name dropping the product RedOctane develops, Guitar Hero, as a reason for you to use the NetSuite line of products is [...]
So the DSi LL will be coming out in Japan and before I had a chance to blink, it was already confirmed for North America as the DSi XL. The screen is a whopping 4.2″ over the original DSi’s 3.2″ or the DS Lite 3″ screen. The colors are kind of ugly and price [...]

Okay, lets face it. Some of you don’t know what “tate” even is. So before I even start, here’s the best explanation I could find.
The official unofficial definition from Insomnia states:
Tate: (also True Tate, Vertical Mode) Viewing mode available in some vertscrollers which displays the playing field at full size, rotated 90 degrees to the right. Designed to be utilized by certain monitors which can be turned on their sides, so as to display the game on a vertically-oriented manner similar to a vertically-oriented arcade monitor. The preferred screen format of most vertical shmup players, but it cannot be safely used on most televisions, since turning standard sets on their sides can break them.
Can be used as a verb to describe the actual turning of one’s monitor or television on its side, as in “I tated my monitor to play this game.” Also sometimes presented as “Arcade Mode” or “Full-Screen Mode.”
The word “tate” comes from a Japanese adjective which means “vertical,” and is pronounced “tah-teh,” though the common mispronunciation of “tayte” has gained semi-acceptance. Also commonly spelled with all capital letters (TATE), though it is not an acronym.
There are two incorrect “origins” of the word which are commonly heard: one states that “tate” simply comes from the English word “rotate,” and the other states that the word comes from the Japanese verb “tateru,” which means “to stand.”
Now are we all on the same page? Like wide-screen movies, borders suck and why should you the player have your gaming experience ruined by having your game shrunken and distorted down with ugly borders along the sides? Well there is a way to play the game easily; it will just involve you upgrading your gaming rig.

So Tenno is a lazy bum and hasn’t posted up this great contest. So as in real life, someone else has to wipe his hindquarters for him. As as it stands, we’ve received one entry into the contest. Now as much as that one person will most likely appreciate no one else participating, thereby giving him a guaranteed win, I think we have a few greedy and or competitive folks to make sure that doesn’t happen.
The contest is simple, all you have to do is take a picture of yourself with some form of Pineconeattack paraphernalia in the picture and send it to us at:
pineconeattack (AT) gmail (DOT) com
Or you can even post it here as a comment. Some way, some how, get us pics plz or it never happened. The key is to make it funny, cool, or just plain awesome. We’ll chose the best entry and select them as the winner. You’ve have until the end of this week to submit your photos.
You have till Thursday November 5th to submit your photos. This should give you a bit more time to score some schwag. The winner will be announced on the Pinekast Episode #41. (Jangofatt)
What do you get for all this wonderful effort? You’ll receive either the MMO collection with a Ninja Turtle headband or the t-shirts (4 shirts) Tenno and Jango got from PAX this year. There is quite an assortment so you’ll want to make sure to get in on this. And who knows, there may just be a few surprises added into the mix. So get to it and show your undying love and devotion to your master Pineconeattack!

This week we did our horror episode a bit early as the weekend of the 31st will be taken up by the this months GOTM – Yakuza! So consider this week our nod of the head to Halloween as we look to our favorite horror themed games. It’s actually (ironically) one of the more laugh oriented [...]

I completely forgot about this weird homebrew shmups for the Atari Lynx. Hey, you do remember the Atari Lynx right? Atari’s not so little handheld that couldn’t overtake the Gameboy back in ’89.
Anyways, Super Fighter Team, the same gents who released Beggar Prince & Legend of Wukong has now released a brand new shmup called Zaku. It’s a horizontal shooter where you control Zaku wolf/fox/mammal with serious ‘tude, dude where you fly about shooting shit. All I care about is that it’s a cool looking vivid shmup from my second most ignored handheld so this is a must buy in my book.
Even with the higher price of $48 (USD), I think a brand new Lynx homebrew would probably be worth it.
What do you guys think?

I repeat, Day 1 purchase. [...]

So my Club Nintendo prize arrived today.
You may remember I was a little disappointed with the prizes for my loyalty to the almighty “N.” I can’t say I’m surprised about it.
The hat looks and smells nice. The fabrics seems cheap but at least it is the correct color of red. The funny thing is the instructions are telling me to never wash it or even dry clean this thing. It will forever be a sponge of funk and grim. But I do not really have to worry about that because Continue reading It’sa Me, Mario’s Hat!
This one is for Baldy.
So this new movie will be brought to you by Rainmaker Entertainment who used to be called Mainframe Entertainment, the original creators of the ReBoot series. Oh joyous days. Now if Rainmaker Entertainment can convince Hasbro to give them back the Transformers license, then we might actually have some awesome [...]
