Game of the Month: July

Goozex Steps it Up

So I was browsing through Goozex today, a video game trading website, when I found a pleasant surprise. Goozex now allows people to trade “retro” games. I saw categories for the 2600, NES, Super NES, Gameboy, Genesis, N64, and even Sega CD!!! How cool is that? Sega CD! But guess what I [...]

Netflix Streaming Wii Disc Impression

So I received my Netflix disc over the weekend and gave it a spin on the dusty unloved Wii…

I have to say this is my favorite console to now watch my standard resolution shows.  While the Xbox 360 is still the superior console to stream HD programming due to overall speed, I have to say the [...]

Weekend Wrap Up: UNO Bitches

I’m realizing that there just isn’t that one multiplayer game that the members of Pinekast can play with each other that doesn’t require a $60 investment/justification.  Xbox Live is pretty diluted when you are not playing online games with friends, which makes me more grateful for XBLA arcade games for being cheap and overall easy to [...]

Pinekast #61: Rose Tinted Glasses: Blind Love for Retro Gaming

So the topic of this week’s show is…

I’m not really sure truthfully. It’s either on how rose tinted glasses blinds jaded gamers from progress in modern game design.

Or

It’s about how innovation is destroying old school game design.

Just because a game is old does not make the game great or the game design any better.  On the [...]

Super Metroid for the Sega Genesis?!

Super Metroid is revered the world around by gamers and non-gamers alike. Filled with top notch platforming, great gameplay, tight controls, and stunning visuals, it was a showcase for the Super Nintendo. The final element was the captivating soundtrack. Composed by Kenji Yamamoto, it is ingrained into my brain to this day. The intro melody is [...]

Dracula X: Rondo of Blood FINALLY arrives on the Wii

Dracula X: Rondo of Blood is one of those elusive games that every collector wanted in their hands. Not only was Rondo of Blood the first ever Castlevania game to have been press onto the compact disc format, but also it is probably the finest example of classic formula Castlevania and one of the best [...]

Turtle Beach Ear Force X31 Review

On the search for the perfect Xbox Live headset, I decided to jump in feet first and score myself a pair of stereo headsets that can double up as an Xbox Live communicator. After researching for the ‘perfect headset’, I initially decided to invest in the Turtle Beach Ear Force X1, but was ultimately unhappy with them for two reasons.

  • I didn’t want to be tethered to the Xbox 360.
  • I couldn’t monitor myself talking, which caused me to yell into the headset.

Looking for an alternative, I took the leap of faith and purchased the Turtle Beach X31 wireless headset. This surprisingly light weight wireless headset was exactly what I was looking for… well for the most part.
