Pineconeattack, or PCA is a semi-collaborative effort of sheer idiocy, perpetrated on teh interbutts for our own sick amusement, with articles about gaming, pop culture/fad and anything we find funny.

One of the greatest advantages of being a cab owner is that you, on rare occasion, find stealer deals on arcade hardware and boards that are so damn tempting, you jump on them before thinking. I have this rule that I for the most part follow religiously: DO NOT suicide boards.
I have a nice collection of [...]
 HERE BE EVO!
So I went to EVO for about an hour.
Yup. Just one. And for a bunch of you, you’re probably all like, ‘Whoaaaaaa there Tenno! You were at the gaming Mecca of Las Vegas! You fricking live there even! WHAT THE! HELL!’
Hey baby, I’m a rolling stone. And by that I mean that even aside from all that awesome gaming on hand, I just am not that big of a fighting game guy to geek out properly at events like this. Literally I was melting the second I walked in -Hey Caesar’s Palace! A little A/C here! – and already ready to go. This shit just isn’t for me.
Pictured: Shit that isn't for me.

The Gradius series turned 25 this year. On May 29, 1985, Konami rolled out Gradius onto the arcade scene to forever revolutionize shooters for two and a half decades by introducing the selecting power up system. Gradius not only shape the arcade and home console but also Konami itself with the perfection [...]

I received a phone call from Decepticreep about his arcade machine having issues. I asked him what the cab was doing and all he said was, “The cab just won’t boot the game anymore. All I’m getting is a green/black/blue screen.”
Fuck.
My Vampire Savior 2 board just committed suicide.

After checking my Twitter feed, I was suprised to see a cool little video over at Driph’s feed. It was a sweet video of a new vertical shooter for one of my favorite arcade system, the Neo-Geo MVS. Hot Dog! The game is called Fast Striker and is currently developed my NG: Dev.Team, the makers of Last Hope, a shooter that was originally developed for the Neo-Geo AES & Neo-Geo CD (and eventually ported to the Dreamcast).
Fast Strikers looks gorgeous with the sweet scaling sprites and 3D effects that really looks amazing on that old tech. Even though the shooter is displayed on a horizontal screen position, the gameplay looks fast and frantic for a bullet hell shump, something the MVS library lacks. I’m really excited to play a new game on my Neo-Geo cab. No word yet on price. Here’s hoping the MVS kit will be less than $200. (Fingers crossed)

May 27 looks to be the date for the sequel to DeathSmiles. While the first DeathSmiles will finally make it’s way onto the shores of North America, the Christmas themed shmup will be out of the hands for most gamers. Straying away from the more traditional sprite based shooter, Cave decided to take DeathSmiles II [...]
So it looks like SNK Playmore will finally get around to finishing King of Fighters XII.It will be released on the Taito Type X2 arcade hardware and should look like the previous game. Here’s hoping for a complete game this time around and a fixed online mode. Whatever happens, this game WILL NOT be a day [...]

Captain America and the Avengers
Data East
Arcade

Organizing my arcade boards, I’ve surprisingly stumbled across one of Decepticreep’s old JAMMA board, Captain America and the Avengers. This was just one of those boards that I’ve never given much of a chance but after watching the attract mode, I decided to give this board another chance.
Captain America and the Avengers had to overcome my Data East prejudice. I’ve always felt in the arcade beat ‘em up world; Capcom and Konami had the market cornered with visually more impressive games with bigger sprites and over the top action scenes, which at first glance, Captain America seemed sorely lacking. While the sprites in Captain America and the Avengers are much smaller to their Capcom/Konami counterparts, what made this game shine past my preconception was the little details like hand drawn character portraits that reacts when they are hurt to the water colored backgrounds. The environment actually looked like a hand drawn comics and every scenario looked gorgeous! It isn’t everyday that a video games can capture the look and feel of the Marvel comic vibe.
Speaking of comic book vibe, all of the cut sequences are shown as comic book panels and all of the punches are displayed vividly with the appropriate onomatopoeia, adding to the experience. Another little detail that won my heart was the old school anime effect like crackling electricity and how the robots disintegrate into oblivion when you character punches through them. Data East did a great job capturing the all-elusive comic charm. Continue reading Arcade Review: Captain America and the Avengers
The Neo-Geo restoration adventure continues. I finally received my new convex buttons from Happ Controls and also picked up a nifty little solder mate: the proverbial third hand. Installing the buttons would have been a breeze but I soon realized that I was missing all of the joystick & buttons wires from the MVS harness.
It looks [...]
