Irides: Master of Blocks
Console: Dreamcast
Release date: 12/12/09
It never surprises me that one of the best consoles to come out in the last couple of generations would still, after all these years, have such a huge homebrew support from dedicated programmers. This newest puzzle game for the Sega Dreamcast has proven to be no exception. Developed by Mad Peet, Irides: Master of Blocks will look very familiar to those enjoy the music puzzle block genre and developing a homebrew on one of the most addictive puzzle formulas to be released in the past decade is a great mold to emulate and as the old cliché states: ‘imitation is the highest form of flattery.’

So have you ever pulled your old game console out of the garage and noticed that the plastic hasn’t fared as well as you remembered!?
You want your plastic case back to its previous color but don’t want the hassle of sanding and painting!?
Does your plastic casing looks like it was [...]
I found this cool little demake of Megaman 7 which makes Megaman 8 the new black sheep in terms of graphical continuity. This is the stripped down version of Megaman 7 all recreated with the NES make over. Ironically the game looks and plays much better than its SNES big brother and fix issues many fans have been complaining about since day one. I haven’t been able to play much since I’m still at work and I’m not sure if this game is even compatible with my Mac BUT the game seems faithful to the source and as a freebie, I’m not going to complain all that much. My only grip is that they didn’t make this “port†based on actual NES hardware spec, so no PowerPak love for me. Anywho, download this game here and look for the file named: ver.final2.
While we are on the subject of fan created sequels and remakes, check out the video below of Metroid : Confrontation. True, it’s not the true remake sequel of Metroid II but it looks like a whole new game created by the same guy who is recreating the Metroid II fan-sequel, which should make the hardcore Super Metroid fans very happy. Try out the tech demo or watch the video for some awesomeness.

Dust off your Sega Genesis and Sega CD; I discovered some amazing news for you.
It looks like a small but dedicated group of homebrew programmers will be releasing a new RPG called Pier Solar for not only just a Genesis game but also combining with the power of the Sega CD. This will be the first 100% original game to be released in this decade/millennium. You see the last big game to have been released on the Genesis was Beggar Prince, but that was a translation of an old Chinese RPG repackaged and shipped to the English speaking market. So I’m really excited to support this project and to see how this game will look on my setup at home. To make this game even more interesting, you can play the cart and stream the music directly off the Sega CD. How awesome is it to get a 100% original 16 bit game with CD quality sound? Well, if this was 1994, I would have been floored but then again if you told me there would still be people making Sega Genesis games in 2008/2009, I would probably laugh in your face. As much as I want to mock and make fun of this kid, I’m actually really impressed with his mad skillz with cardboard construction of every single freakin’ Halo 3 weapons. Man, his video is sooo much more interesting than this video. At least this kid used his imagination and [...]
It’s the Empire’s March but done on a floppy drive.
An interesting hack that makes the 3.5 floppy drive relevant again.

It’s hard to believe that videogaming made some of it’s first strides recreating two paddles and a squarish ball bouncing back and forth; and yet, here we all sit, writing, enjoying and wasting our days with the children of that simplistic pastime. Fucking Pong, man!
Now recreating that hoary old thing isn’t new, in fact it seems [...]
Well, much like the PSP, one of the greatest uses for Nintendo’s Wii gaming system seems to be the infinite (and awesome!) hackability of its periphials.
Case in point, some German students have taken the time to use the newly released WiiFit board to make an interactive Google Earth, perfect for the aspiring superhero/VR nut.
A group [...]

I suppose this is funny, since I neither own a Wii, nor expect to have one at any time soon; but every couple of weeks when I can drag myself away from my frantic yaoi manga fapping, its quite a treat to roll into Jangofatt’s domicile and swing my arms around wildly with our under-graphically represented friend: The Nintendo Wii.
Now, when I first had a chance to play the new Mario Kart, right off the the bat I found that using the wheel periphial was both silly and counter productive. It was slow, unresponsive and worst of all – not fun, no matter how much I drank. Ah, but here lies the crux of my dilemma. I was doing it wrong. Continue reading Making the Wii Wheel Work.

Sorry about the recent onslaught of pinball posts but when I have an interest on a new topic, I tend to obsess over it. I bring you only the tidbits that I find to be interesting, so on that note here’s a real brief history lesson and why this mod is cool. For the real lesson on “Revenge from Mars”, check out the video below. Continue reading “Revenge from Mars” Online Pinball Leader Board
