Aol 3.0 was faster than 4.0 on my 28.8k modem

I spent months blaming my ISP when pages took forever, but I downgraded from AOL 4.0 to 3.0 last week and it actually cut load times in half on my old Packard Bell. Did anyone else find that newer versions of software just ran worse on the hardware we had back then?

Did you have that AOL disc that came in the mail every week too? I was convinced I was some kind of wizard when I figured out downgrading made things snappy again. My Pentium 75 would literally freeze for 30 seconds just loading the AOL 4.0 splash screen. Downgraded to 3.0 and suddenly I could actually browse without my computer sounding like a jet engine. And don't even get me started on how 4.0 wanted to load all those fancy graphics while I was just trying to check my "You've Got Mail" folder.
