DAE remember using web forums to plan entire vacations before booking sites existed?

The amount of printer ink I wasted on MapQuest directions and forum posts was a crime. You’d get your whole trip mapped out by some guy with a vacation countdown in his signature. It was a messy kind of magic that booking sites just killed.

Remember printing out those pages and feeling like you had a REAL plan. It was messy but it meant something. Now everything is just clicks and algorithms. We traded that HUMAN touch for convenience. It's like we lost the SOUL in so many things, not just travel. The magic is gone because it's all too perfect and cold.

Was the real vacation the friends we made in those forum threads? (I'm only half joking.) I spent more time talking to strangers about hotel pillows than actually packing. Now a site just tells me the "best" option and I miss arguing with a guy named RoadWarrior77 about which exit has the cleanest rest stop.
