Dial-up vs. the library computer lab, no contest at all

Back in 1997 I was trying to write a fanfic for a show nobody on my block watched, and my home AOL connection took like 4 minutes just to load a single image. Meanwhile the public library downtown had this new T1 line and I could pull up entire webrings in seconds. I spent one whole afternoon comparing the two and honestly the library computer felt like cheating, I finished three chapters before my dial-up even would have let me log in. The only downside was the 30 minute time limit and the old guy who always hogged the good terminal to check stock prices. It made me realize slow internet forces you to plan, but fast internet makes you actually create. Anyone else ditch their home modem for the library or a friend's cable hookup back then?

Did the library have a print card system you had to work around too?
