Hit 100,000 page views on my Geocities shrine last night, in 1997 that felt impossible

So I was digging through an old hard drive and found the raw hit counter data from my old Angelfire page about 90s cartoon theme songs. I remembered being obsessed with the counter and I finally cracked 100,000 total views right before I shut it down in 1999. That number seems tiny now, but back then it meant something. I knew people were actually out there, not just my three friends from school who had AOL. I even had a guestbook entry from someone in Norway, which blew my mind. Anyone else remember watching their hit counter like it was a live sports score? Did you ever hit a milestone that made you feel like a big deal?
