I thought the whole 'web ring' thing was just a dumb fad back in '97

I was sure linking a bunch of random sites about, say, Buffy fan fiction into a circle was pointless. Then my friend in Chicago showed me her site traffic tripled after joining the 'Gothic Castle' ring. It actually got people clicking through. Anyone else have a web ring story, good or bad?

@max808 I don't know man, '97 felt like their prime to me. Got my site on a "Gothic Web Ring" that year and traffic went up like crazy. Was a pain keeping the links updated though, half of them would die within a month.

Actually, web rings were already fading by '97. They were huge a couple years before that.

Yeah they peaked early for sure. Still found some good sites through them though.
