Just got called out for using too many animated under construction GIFs on my 1997 GeoCities site
My cousin in Chicago emailed me saying the flashing icons made the page impossible to read. I swapped them all for a single static 'Updated 10/15/97' text banner. Did anyone else get similar design feedback back then?

Those under construction signs made people click away before your page even loaded.

Honestly, that static banner was probably way easier on the eyes. Did you ever use the little 'email me' envelope icon that wiggled? My friend said it looked like a bug crawling on her screen and she closed the page.
