Just realized I was dead wrong about Napster ruining music discovery
I used to argue with my buddy Dave that Napster was killing the music industry, but after finding 40 obscure bands in one weekend back in 99 that I never would have heard on the radio, I started to wonder if the RIAA lawsuit was actually fighting against something good - what side were you on back then?

Wait, didn't the same thing happen with almost every big music sharing platform since then? I remember getting into this with my cousin who swore Soulseek was just Napster 2.0 and we'd both get sued by Metallica eventually. But looking back, that whole era was like getting handed a backstage pass to every garage band in the world. I found this noise rock band from Belgium on there that nobody else I knew had heard of, and they ended up being one of my favorites for years. The RIAA was fighting a losing battle trying to put that genie back in the bottle once people got a taste of real music variety.

Did that band ever release anything on vinyl, @derek_burns?
