Lost $40 on a fake 28.8k modem upgrade back in 96

Bought this "turbo" modem from a guy at a computer flea market in Austin because it promised 56k speeds, but it was just a re-labeled 14.4 in a fancy box. Took me three weeks of cursing at my AOL connect screen before I realized the download speeds weren't any better than my old one. Anyone else get ripped off by those swap meet sellers back then, or was I just the only sucker?
