My 28.8k modem ate my final paper, and it was my own fault
In 1998 I was sending my history final to the campus printer from my dorm at Ohio State. The file was 200KB, and I figured 15 minutes was plenty. I hit send and went to grab pizza. When I came back, the connection had reset at 92% and the print job never went through. I ended up walking 20 minutes to the computer lab at 11pm, re-typing the last three pages by hand, and sliding the whole mess under the professor's door. Has anyone else lost an assignment to a dropped connection at the worst possible moment?

Wait, you re-typed three pages by hand and slid it under the door? That's wild. You know the campus computer lab would have had the file on the shared drive, right? Or you could have just walked to the lab to email it as an attachment, no re-typing needed. Dropped connections were awful back then, but you kind of made it ten times harder on yourself than it had to be. Did you check the lab's print queue before you gave up on the digital copy?
