My $40 investment in a 14.4k modem felt like a cheat code back in '96
It cut my download time for a single MP3 from like an hour to maybe 20 minutes, which was basically a miracle. Anyone else remember that first big speed upgrade?

Oh, the bar was so low back then. I felt like a tech wizard for saving forty minutes, which I would then spend carefully naming the file and hoping it didn't skip. My standards were basically on the floor.
