My GeoCities page collapsed under 2MB of animated GIFs, archive gone

I mean, i spent all summer in 1998 building this shrine to my favorite band with like 40 spinning skull cursors and a midi that looped. Then one day the host just pulled the plug and i had no backup. Is it better to keep a messy archive alive forever or let old stuff die and move on? Has anyone else lost a whole project to a free host vanishing?

Archived pages fade anyway, but 2MB of GIFs was a lot for 1998 dial-up.
