My old boot disk collection finally bit me in the modem port

Pulled out a floppy from 1996 last week to load a DOS game on my retro build, and the disk had gone bad after sitting in a closet for 20 years. The drive just clicked and spat out a read error, no way to recover the data since I never made backups back then. Tried a second disk with my old ANSI art files and got the same result, so I lost about 40 pieces of pixel work I did on a Packard Bell. Guess I should have copied them to CD-R when I had the chance, but who thought floppies would rot like that? Anyone else lose their old downloads or BBS text files to disk decay, or did you manage to save yours in time?
