People always say Geocities was the best, but I built my first site on Angelfire and it was way easier...

Geocities made you figure out those weird neighborhood directories, but Angelfire just gave you a blank page and an FTP login. I uploaded a pixelated 'Under Construction' gif in about five minutes. Anyone else have a strong preference for one of those old free hosts?

Actually, Angelfire had a web-based editor too, you didn't have to use FTP right away. I remember because that's how I made my first page, just typing into a box on their site. The FTP thing came later if you wanted to get fancy.

But didn't Angelfire also limit you to like 20 kilobytes of space on their free plan? I remember hitting that wall pretty fast because I wanted to add more than one background image and a guestbook. GeoCities gave you a whole 2 megabytes right out of the gate, which felt like an ocean compared to what Angelfire offered. That extra space meant I could actually store a few scanned photos of my cat next to my terrible poetry without having to delete something else.

Honestly, who even remembers the details that clearly? Both sites were just a mess of glitter text and auto-playing MIDI files. Arguing over which one was better is like picking a favorite dial-up sound.
