PSA: I picked between a free Juno email and paying $20 a month for AOL, and I still think about it

Back in 1997 my parents gave me a choice: keep using the free Juno email account with all the pop up ads, or let them pay $19.95 a month for AOL so I could get into chat rooms. I picked AOL because all my friends were on it, and my mom was not happy about the bill, but it was the only way I could talk to anyone after school. Did anyone here stick with a free service like Juno or NetZero and feel like you missed out on everything?
