I always thought personal homepages were a waste back in the dial up era, just clutter on a free host like Tripod or Angelfire. Then my brother sent me a ZIP of my old site from a dusty CD-R he burned in 1998, and the Wayback Machine actually had 4 of my pages from 1999. I started fixing broken image links one by one, and it turned into a weird history project where I found my old guestbook with 62 entries from strangers in Ohio and Finland. The trick that worked was using the Internet Archive's CDX API to pull every snapshot URL instead of clicking through months by hand, which cut a 6 hour job down to maybe 20 minutes. Now I have the whole thing running on a local folder and I'm slowly converting the old frames layout to plain HTML. Has anyone else dug up a Geocities or Angelfire page and tried to bring it back, and did your old webring links still go anywhere?
