Relived my first AOL login screen and it was way slower than I remembered
Last month I booted up an old Pentium II with a CRT monitor just to see the dial up handshake again. Spent 3 minutes waiting for the modem to connect and my sister asked if the computer was broken. Totally weird how fast 56k felt back then compared to now.

Well that's the thing that gets me about all this. Did you actually time how long it took to load a single webpage compared to now, or are you just remembering it being fast because you didn't know any better? Because I swear I remember waiting a solid 45 seconds for a 50 kilobyte image to load on a good day. I gotta ask - did you actually try to do anything useful on that old machine, or did you just log in and stare at the desktop for a bit? Because there's a big difference between nostalgia and actually using that setup for real work.

Funny thing, my brother actually found our old AOL floppy discs in the garage last week and tried to install them on his new laptop just for kicks. The disc drive wouldn't even read it. We spent an hour arguing about whether that was even legal before giving up and ordering pizza.
