Shoutout to the guy who sold me a 14.4k modem instead of a 28.8k in '95
He said it was more reliable, but I spent 45 minutes downloading a single JPEG. Anyone else fall for the 'stability over speed' pitch back then?

That 45 minute jpeg download is a real throwback. Paulc93 has a point about stability, but was it ever that big of a deal? My 28.8k worked fine most days, and I got my terrible GeoCities graphics a lot faster.

Honestly, that was probably solid advice for the time. A stable 14.4k beat a flaky 28.8k any day.
