That day in 1996 the web felt small, now it feels endless
I still remember loading AltaVista on a 28.8k modem at 11pm in Portland and finding every Geocities page in seconds. Now the same search brings up millions of results and none of them feel like a person. Does anyone else miss when you could actually read every site about a hobby in one night and still have time to chat on IRC?

Man I just read this article about how the old web was basically a bunch of hobbyists hand coding pages, and it totally hit me. Now it's all just algorithms and ads, feels like nobody's home anymore.
