Visited a vintage computer meetup and saw a bunch of old dial-up terminals still in use

I went to this retro tech thing over in Austin last weekend, and man, it was like stepping back to 1995. There was a guy who set up an old 28.8k modem and was actually dialing into a local BBS from a beat-up Packard Bell. The screech of the handshake brought back memories I forgot I had. What really got me was how slow everything was, like waiting 30 seconds for a single text page to load. People were trading disks of shareware games, and someone was selling old issues of Wired magazine from 1994. Has anyone else been to one of these shows and just felt weirdly nostalgic for the noise and waiting?

My buddy tried dialing up and his wife unplugged the phone mid-download.

Did you actually use dial-up back then, or is this just rose-tinted glasses?
