Warning: The old Geocities page for my high school band is gone and the whole web feels different now

I went looking for it last week, just for a laugh. Back in '98, our drummer made this Geocities site with a black background, lime green text, and a MIDI file of our one original song that auto-played. It was a mess, but it was ours. The link just goes to a blank page now, and the Wayback Machine only has a partial copy from 2002. It hit me that a huge chunk of the early web, the personal, weird, hand-coded stuff, is just vanishing because it's not on a big platform. Everything feels so clean and samey now. It's like the difference between a box of random garage sale finds and a sterile showroom. Has anyone else tried and failed to find a specific old personal site from that era?

Yeah, it's a real bummer. The web lost its soul when all the weird little corners got paved over.

Ugh, tell me about it. I got so sick of the same five big sites that I started digging for old forums and weird hobby blogs. It takes work, but I saved a bunch of links in a document and just treat it like my own little weird internet. Makes it feel like the old web again, just for me.
