PSA: those old Geocities pages you love are getting eaten by domain squatters, not time

I went back to check a wrestling fan page from 1999 that I bookmarked in college, and the URL now redirects to a sketchy ad site because the original owner let the domain lapse in 2016. People assume these old sites just sit there untouched forever, but the domain usually gets grabbed within days of expiring and the old content is gone for good, even though the Wayback Machine only saved 3 snapshots of the inner pages. If you find a dead site you care about, have you tried pulling the raw HTML before it vanishes, or is there a better way to archive it yourself?
