Spent $15 on a dead forum membership and it was worth every penny
Last month I paid $15 through Paypal to get access to a locked subforum on a site about vintage computer restoration. The site hasn't been updated since 2017 and the admin who took my money probably doesn't even check the email anymore. But I got 200 pages of old repair guides that saved me three weeks of trial and error on my TRS-80 Model III. Anyone else ever pay for access on a ghost site?

Close, but the TRS-80 Model III came out in 1980, not the late 70s like the Model I. The repair guides from 2017 would still be gold for that machine though, those old Tandy floppy drives are a nightmare. I dropped $10 on a dead Amiga forum once and got the schematics for the A500 power supply that saved me from frying my board. That $15 probably paid for itself ten times over in the time and headache you saved.

Wait, you dropped a whole $10 on a dead forum and actually got usable schematics out of it? That's wild, most of those old sites are either totally gone or someone's just sitting on the archives like a dragon hoarding gold.
