Stumbled on a dead website that still counts car crashes by the minute

I was hunting for old trucking forums the other night and landed on this site that looks like it was built in 1998. It still updates a live counter of car crashes in the US, one every 14 seconds or something like that. The design is all gray tables and blinking text, like someone's high school project that never ended. I sat there watching the number tick over for maybe 10 minutes, and it honestly creeped me out how fast it climbs. The site hasn't been touched in years but that counter keeps running off some old server somewhere. Anyone else find a site that feels like a ghost but still tracks something real?

That line about "like someone's high school project that never ended" got me. My buddy found an old weather site that still showed the temperature from the day his dad passed away. Just frozen on that one number forever.

That 72 degrees Fahrenheit stuck on a static page is actually kind of a beautiful thing if you think about it. @the_joel I get why your friend would find it sad, but that frozen number is way more honest than the endless updates we get now. At least that site isn't lying to anyone or trying to sell something. It's just sitting there, quietly admitting "this is the last thing I managed to do before everything stopped mattering." There's something almost peaceful about a website that refuses to pretend the world kept spinning. The alternative is watching some automated script churn out fake data for years, which feels even more hollow to me. That old weather site has more integrity than most of the internet at this point.
