Stumbled on a Geocities fansite for a TV show that ended 15 years ago

Honestly, I was looking for old episode guides for a show I used to watch and found this site that hasn't been updated since 2009. The layout is pure 2000s - pixelated GIFs, starry backgrounds, and a guestbook that's still open but nobody has signed in years. It had fan theories about the season 3 finale that never got resolved because the site owner just stopped posting one day. Makes me wonder how many of those old forums and sites are still floating around out there with people's memories frozen in time. Anyone else got a random old site they check every now and then?

The Wayback Machine is actually your best friend for stuff like this. I had a similar situation with a fan site for a comic that ended in 2005 and I found the whole thing archived back to 2002. You can normally pull up old versions of the site from different years to see when the theories stopped and what the last updates looked like. Just plug the URL into archive.org and you'll probably find a bunch of snapshots going back to when the owner was still active.

I get what you're saying with "your best friend for stuff like this," and the Wayback Machine is solid for a lot of things. But I've had it let me down with older fan sites, especially ones that used weird custom URLs or subdomains that didn't get crawled well. I tried digging up a site from 2008 for a defunct MMO once, and Archive.org only had the homepage and one forum page saved. The rest was just broken links or missing images. So while it works great for bigger sites or blogs that got a lot of traffic, smaller niche fan pages can be hit or miss.
