That abandoned forum about old pickup truck repairs taught me more than any YouTube video ever did
I stumbled on this forum from like 2003 dedicated to fixing up 1980s Ford F-150s. The guy running it last posted in 2017 but every single thread has like 50 replies from real mechanics and weekend wrenchers. No ads, no fancy layout, just plain text. I was trying to chase down a weird knocking noise in my 86 and found a thread where three different people described the exact same issue. Turns out it was a loose bolt on the motor mount that everyone overlooks. Saved me at least $300 in shop fees. The weirdest part was that one of the replies was from a guy who said he worked at the Ford plant in the 80s and confirmed that specific bolt was a known flaw. How does stuff like that just sit there on some server in Ohio for 20 years without getting deleted? Has anyone else found a dead forum that had way better info than anything modern?"

Did you ever try reaching out to the guy who ran the forum? Might still check his email. I bet he's got a hard drive full of old manuals nobody's seen.

Yeah, that's a good point, I feel the same way about lost archives like that.
