Update: I spent a year trying to archive a 2002 Flash game site before I realized the Wayback Machine already had it.
I found out after I manually saved 400 broken asset files from a site called 'NeoPets Battleground' when a friend casually asked, 'Did you check the Internet Archive first?'

Honestly that's the worst kind of pain. Tbh the real lesson is to always ask your friends before you start a huge project, they save you from yourself.

Actually, the real lesson is to check the Wayback Machine first, before you even tell your friends. They might not know about it either. I've learned that the hard way after a few similar deep dives. The archive is the first stop, not the last resort.

Ugh this hits home. It's like when you spend an hour looking for your phone while holding it. We all have these little blind spots where we assume we're the first to figure something out. The real trick is admitting you don't know everything before you waste a bunch of time.
