I thought AI art was just a gimmick until I saw the numbers from a gallery show

I was reading an article about a small gallery in Seattle that held a show for art made with AI tools. I always figured it was just a flashy trick, not real art. But the article said they sold over 40 pieces in one week, and the average price was around $300. That's a real market. It made me stop and think. People weren't just looking at it as a tech demo, they were buying it to hang in their homes. The gallery owner was quoted saying, 'The tool is new, but the feeling it creates is what matters.' I guess I was stuck on how it was made, not what it made people feel. Has anyone else had their view on AI's creative side changed by seeing it work in a real place like that?

i mean 300 bucks isnt nothing but its not exactly serious art money either. people drop that on a poster at ikea or a random print from etsy all the time. the whole "feeling" argument feels like a cop out to me. you could say the same thing about a sunset photo you took on your phone, doesnt make it gallery worthy. i'd be more impressed if they were selling for like 3k a piece from a known artist.

Wait, people actually paid that much? I get that it looks cool, but it's still just hitting a button on a computer. Does a printout really feel the same as something a person made by hand?
