My AI art detector flagged my own wedding photos as 98% synthetic
Was sitting at my desk in Chicago last Tuesday running a batch of my wife's photography through a new authenticity tool I built, and it told me our 2019 wedding album was almost certainly generated by a GAN, so I had to spend 3 hours tracing the metadata back to our actual Canon 5D files to prove the model was wrong, has anyone else had a detection tool completely fail on real human images?

Yeah that's a rough one. 2019 is a specific year. I've had my own phone camera flag a perfectly normal sunset as "enhanced" before. Not wedding photos, but still. It's unsettling when the tool you trust to tell you what's real just decides to gaslight you. Tracing metadata is a pain, I've done it once for a client who was sure his vacation pics were fakes. The whole thing makes you wonder how many real human moments these detectors are wrong about.

Actually metadata can be edited though, so it's not always proof.
