My coworker said AI writing tools are killing creativity, I'm not so sure anymore

Had a chat with Dave from accounting last Friday about the new AI draft generator we use for client emails. He said it makes everyone lazy and we'll lose our voice, but I pointed out that I rewrote 80% of what it gave me for that big proposal. The real debate is whether using AI to beat the blank page is cheating or just a smarter starting point. Anyone else landed somewhere in the middle after arguing about this?

Wondering if Dave ever tried drafting those client emails from scratch before, or if he's just guessing that the AI version is worse than what he'd write cold? Cause I feel like the real test is comparing the AI draft to your own starting point on a tough day, not to some perfect version that exists in his head.
