That $65 self-hosted voice assistant finally made me ditch the cloud ones

I was at a meetup in Austin last month and a guy named Ray showed me his Home Assistant setup running a local LLM for voice commands. He said his response time is about 1.2 seconds versus 4 seconds for my smart speaker, and it works offline during storms. It made me realize I was trading privacy for convenience without even thinking about it. Has anyone else built a local voice pipeline that feels smooth enough for daily use?
