After 8 months, my torque wrench readings finally match the calibration bench

Every month I send our torque wrenches out for calibration, and for the longest time the 3/8-inch drive unit in bay 2 always came back flagged for being 4 to 6 percent off at the low end. I kept resetting it, checking the grip, even swapped out the clicker mechanism once. Then last week I paid attention to how the new kid was using it, he was pushing sideways on the handle instead of straight down, which throws off the preload every single time. I spent a Friday afternoon showing him the proper hand position and re-tested the wrench against the shop's digital adapter, bang on spec for all 12 settings. The next calibration report came back clean, which is a first for that tool since I started here in 2022. Has anyone else seen a bad habit in the way someone holds a wrench mess up readings more than the tool itself?
