Can we talk about torque wrenches sitting in their case for 8 months?

Pulled out my 1/2 inch drive last Tuesday to do gear leg bolts on a 172 and it clicked way too early, sent it to the cal lab in Wichita and it was reading 40 ft-lbs off at 150. Now I cycle the thing every 60 days even if it just means dry firing it, anyone else got a schedule that actually works or do you just send them out once a year?
