Caught a wing crack with just a flashlight angle

I was inspecting a Piper Cherokee. Held the flashlight low and saw a hairline crack. What methods work for you in visual checks?

Buddy spotted one with dawn light once.

Disagree here, dawn light is the absolute worst for trying to spot details. Everything just looks washed out and gray for that first little while. I always have way better luck in the last bit of true darkness right before the sun even starts to come up. My best sightings have all been in that pre-dawn blackness with a good light.

Yeah @casey943, that pre-dawn blackness is the real sweet spot... everything just pops with a light.
