Chose a 50 dollar borescope over the fancy one, almost cost me an engine
Last Tuesday I had to pick between a cheap 50 dollar borescope from Harbor Freight and the 400 dollar Snap-On unit my lead mechanic swears by. I grabbed the cheap one because my wallet was hurting after rent. The screen was garbage, fuzzy as hell, and I missed a hairline crack in a cylinder wall on a Cessna 172. Caught it on the second pass with a mirror and a flashlight, but that could've been a rebuild bill if I'd signed off on it. Anyone else get burned by budget tools and end up eating the cost twice?
