I think the torque wrench calibration schedule is a total waste on GA planes

Three months back I had a Snap-on torque wrench come back from calibration with a fail sticker. Thing was off by 4 foot-pounds at 80. So I started checking my old Craftsman beam style against it and found the beam wrench was actually more consistent across the whole range. Now I only send the clickers in every 18 months and just use the beam for critical stuff like cylinder base nuts. Has anyone else given up on the yearly calibration dance on their personal tools?

Yearly calibration dance" is a pretty good way to put it, but I'm not sure skipping it is worth risking a cylinder base nut coming loose on climbout. Four foot-pounds at 80 is annoying, sure, but that's still within 5 percent which is usually fine for most GA stuff. If your beam is consistent and you know its limits, running it that long on personal tools is probably okay, but it's not something I'd recommend for anyone else.

How sure are you that the beam is actually holding that accuracy across the full scale, or have you just checked it at the 80 foot-pound mark?
