Looked up the torque specs for a 737 flap track today and the manual says plus or minus 30%
I always assumed those tolerances were super tight like 5%, who else has had a manual make them question everything they learned in school?

That 30% tolerance seems wild but I heard a maintenance guy on another forum say it's all about the lock washer and thread condition doing the real work. The torque just keeps it snug enough that the hardware stays put under flexing. Plus aluminum parts need that give so nothing cracks over time. Still wild they print it right in the manual like it's no big deal.
