Old lead mechanic told me to stop using safety wire pliers on lockwire

Guy with 30 years at Delta said I was making it too complicated and showed me how to twist lockwire by hand in half the time. Anyone else switch back to hand twisting for small jobs?

That old school wisdom is hard to beat sometimes. Had a similar thing happen with an old timer on a Cessna 172, watched him twist a bunch of safety wire by hand for a magneto and it was done before I even got my pliers out of the drawer. Feels like we get too caught up in the fancy tools and forget the basics that actually work better for small stuff. My hands get cramped after a while, so I still use pliers for long runs, but for those quick little jobs I've been doing it by hand more often now. It's humbling when a guy with that much experience shows you a simpler way.

Guess you found out the hard way that hands beat pliers until your hands give out.
