Spent a whole shift chasing a phantom hydraulic leak on a 737

I mean, it was supposed to be a simple check. We had a write-up for a small hydraulic leak on a 737-800, and I figured it was a loose line or a bad seal. I spent the first hour cleaning the area, but the leak was so slow I couldn't even see where it was coming from. I used dye and a black light, and nothing. My lead told me to pressure it up and watch, so I did that for like three hours. I finally spotted a tiny, tiny seep from a valve body flange that was only wetting when the system was hot and under full pressure. What should have been a 30-minute job turned into an 8-hour shift just to find the source. Has anyone else had a leak that just refused to show itself until you did something super specific?

That "tiny, tiny seep" that only shows under full pressure. It's like everything else. The real problem never shows up until you hit it with the exact right stress. My old car only made that noise going uphill with the AC on. Same thing. You can look all day under normal conditions and miss it.

Right? My laptop fan only goes nuts when I'm on a video call and trying to open a big file. Why is it always the weirdest combo?
