Switched from logs to digital tracking 6 months ago, never going back

I used to scribble every inspection result on paper clipboards and type them up later. That process cost me 3 hours a week just on data entry until I finally switched to a tablet with a maintenance app. Has anyone else made the jump and found hidden time sinks you didn't expect?

Three hours a week on data entry? That's insane, I would have lost my mind. I switched to a tablet with a maintenance app too, and the thing that really blew my mind was how I stopped losing those little sticky notes I used to write quick notes on. The app I use now lets me take photos of the equipment right there, so I don't have to describe something in writing and hope it makes sense later. I also found I was wasting time looking for the right clipboard in the truck, you know, with the specific inspection form on it.

That photo feature really is a game changer, isn't it? I have to ask though, how does your crew handle it when someone forgets to charge their tablet overnight? We tried going digital a few years back but ran into that problem pretty quick. The older guys especially were not happy about having to remember to plug in another device at the end of a long shift. Did you have any pushback from the people who preferred paper and pencil?
