Walked into a hangar in Wichita and saw something that made me stop

I was at a small shop off McConnell AFB last Tuesday picking up a torque wrench and noticed their new hydraulic mule had a hose routed right against the exhaust manifold. The insulation was already melted in a 4 inch spot after just a few cycles, and the shop lead said they bought it that way from a surplus dealer. Has anyone else seen new equipment come in with clear routing issues like this, or is it just me thinking someone skipped the manual on that one?

Used to figure surplus dealers caught everything before it hit the floor... clearly that's not the case anymore. That melted spot is a big deal too, one good vibration and that hose could rub through or worse, catch fire. Saw a similar thing on a tow tractor a few years back, bracket was just zip tied to the oil line and nobody caught it until the line cracked. Sounds like somebody rushed the setup and didn't bother with a simple walk-around check. Good on you for spotting it before it became a real problem.
